If I could only tell Williamsburg brides one thing that would help them during their planning, it would be this:
Beware the Williamsburg Postal System
Note, I didn't say Postal Workers. In fact, there are some really cool people at the post offices who always have a smile for me, and we've had some very cool postal carriers over the years. I appreciate postal workers. I really do.
It's the system itself that appears to be broken, and that is why I'm warning you.
I'm not sure if it's a factor of how quaint Williamsburg is or if it has something to do with our closest annex being in Richmond, but mail in Williamsburg either shows up instantly (like, practically before it's mailed) or a week or two later. I am sure some of my important documents arrive fresh off a plane from Tahiti (and I'm jealous that they went without me).
This really only matters if you're doing something kind of important, like, oh maybe sending a payment to a vendor by a due date, or even better, sending your invitations and expecting a response before the wedding!
My recommendation is that whenever possible, build extra days into the mailing time for anything that is important to your wedding. If you can, pad it by a week. Even (actually, especially) if your mail is going from one Williamsburg address to another. Don't trust that it will be a one or two-day service. Plan ahead.
Lest my mail be delayed any longer than normal, have I mentioned I'm a fan of mail carriers?
